Autumn takes the Americas, which means it takes the ground under your own feet first. The land itself and how it was shaped. The people who were here and are still here. The crops that came from this soil and went out to feed the rest of the world. The arrivals that followed, willing and unwilling. And the long American question, asked plainly and without a tidy answer, of who belongs where.
It is the right season to start with because a child can walk outside and touch it. The harvest is happening. The birds are leaving. The history is under the parking lot.

The land
Before anyone arrived
Geology, biomes, rivers, and the shape of two continents. The first peoples and the civilisations that built in stone here long before anyone crossed an ocean to find them.
The meeting
Arrival, exchange, and cost
Ships, crops, disease, trade, and the collision that made the modern hemisphere. Told without flinching and without despair, at the register a young child can actually carry.
The making
Building something new on old ground
Nations, migrations, invention, music, and the harvest itself. The season closes at the table, which is where the Americas have always ended up.
